Peas please

So my wee pup really enjoys peas. Really enjoys peas. So much so that he will sit at the pea vine and munch away happily until I shoo him away. I love him so much :D

Tips from the pros

Comfort tip: take a shower or bath, towel off, climb back into bed. It is one of the best feelings in the world.

Discomfort tip: when a student wigs out in class, telling you that you're on a power trip when you ask to see her skills on CPR and the AED again because the first time she placed an AED pad on the R & L shoulders instead of looking at the pictures that really are dummified and when doing CPR asking with an upward inflection and getting guidance from group mates... When she won't listen to you, refuses to do what you're asking (despite asking other individuals to do the same in other groups, she feels singled out and that I'm being unreasonable), get someone to take her to the big cheese to talk to and DOCUMENT everything.

That student is going to lodge a formal complaint against you. She is going to say that you treated her differently than others and acted power trippy with her. One of her group mates came in and said: that woman from yesterday had an IQ 50 points lower than my Siamese cat.

I wish I were a man if only to avoid the stupid bitch/cat fighting that happens when you have women in the same room.

I have actually shed tears over this woman's blatant lies and accusations against me and obviously need to grow a thicker skin.

German Rye Bread - Recipe

Well, I had a bit of time before I volunteer this afternoon and was running short of the loaf I made earlier in the week so whipped together another batch of this recipe. All I can say is wow is it good.

German Rye Bread
1 2/3 c. water
2 1/2 tbs. sugar
2/3 tsp. salt
3 1/2 c. white flour
1/2 c. rye flour
1 tb. vital gluten
2 tsp. rapid rise yeast

Other than that, I throw in bits and bobs. Today it was a shake of unsalted sunflower seeds, a shake of wheat germ, a shake of ground flax, and another shake of cracked wheat. Nothing I ever make will ever taste like the former because I almost always improvise and throw in pinches/shakes of random things I think might taste good.

I set the bread maker on the dough cycle and watch it when it starts to whir. If there isn't enough liquid, I drip in a bit more water until it starts to whir. If I add too much, I might throw some raw bran in. I play baking and cooking by ear.

Once the dough cycle is complete, I punch the hell out of it and turn it into a loaf and either into the greased bread tin or throw it onto the pizza stone that is always in the oven. Let it rise for about an hour in the slightly warmed oven. Then I cook it until the bottom sounds hollow when tapped cooking it at about 425F (normally takes about 30 mins).

Yum. If you bake or like bread, give it a go. It's light and toasts wonderfully.

Earth shattering update (no, not really... but read on): after volunteering I went to a meat market that I've never been to but had their meat pies 27 years ago (I was a kid). I decided to pick up some pies and I saw they had a package of meat ends. I picked up the package ($0.99/100g) and it was filled with delectable delights. I had the best prosciutto and some sort of random smoked meat that I've ever consumed this morning on the toasted rye. Variety is the spice of life and I will have a spicy week ahead of me with all the random very, very tasty meats in this package. I wish this meat market wasn't on the other side of the city with petrol being this high or I'd be a regular.

I had 2 pies for dinner last night (beef and steak/kidney) and holy tomatoes are they good. I won't eat two pies at a sitting again, but oh my god were they orgasmic.

Bleary

I've been up most of the night for some reason. A couple of things coming out of a bleary eyed night

1) I applied for a couple of jobs. One was a Safety Advisor position and the other an Employment Something-or-other Officer. This adds to the impressively diverse list of jobs I've applied to over the past couple of months (everything from a nuclear inspector to a spy).

2) I re-discovered a website I wanted to try but never got around to it. It's time to start getting rid of meat again.

I have an hour before I need to get up so maybe I'll just try to shut my eyes (at the very least get off the internet and stop searching for recipes, it's making me hungry).

Tucked into my favourite chair

I dragged it in yesterday, and in fact, I had to take the door off its hinges. None of the inconvenience matters now that I am sat upon it with my bed as a footrest - yes, those are velvet trousers.

At present it is messy, but then again when isn't it?

This and all future posts will be written from my HTC Touch wherever I am.

For now I will drag my lazy bones out into the cold and take the pupster for a walk - then to a get together tonight.
