First day of conservation society stewarding
Today is a very special day - I saw my first anemone. They're fuzzy around the bottom of the flower. A few are bursting out and I also found, slightly off the beaten path, a single sandstone boulder that was obviously a special place for quite some time. Although there is sandstone, it is the first sandstone since moving back from the UK. There were several large 'cups' on the top (7 in total).
Tundra swans flew overhead, male bluebirds darted about wildly trying to attract the attention of a female who sat on a post waiting for the victor, Northern Harriers rode the thermals, and pennycress burst out as catkins swayed in the gentle warm breeze.
It sounds very much like either some killdeer or eskimo curlew are moving through on their migrating routes because I've heard them and know that call. At any given time, everything else in life may not be exciting, but nature is. I even saw a butterfly yesterday. Finally.
